There’s steady rain falling at the MCG, certainly the heaviest it’s been all night.
The second quarter has commenced. Plenty of action still to unfold tonight.

There’s steady rain falling at the MCG, certainly the heaviest it’s been all night.
The second quarter has commenced. Plenty of action still to unfold tonight.
Jordan DeGoey kicks his first goal for the season with his first touch late in the first quarter. It’s a surprise but Collingwood has been winning the clearance game. However, Patrick Cripps won a clearance and Carlton found Curnow who kicked his first goal for the match. Scores are tight as is the contest. Cripps, the 2024 Brownlow medallist, has won his past two battles against Nick Daicos, the runner-up.
Nick Daicos and Sam Walsh exchange pleasantries as the siren sounds. It’s a show of strength really.
Players come from everywhere. There’s more than a bit of feeling out there tonight.
There are attempts to separate Daicos and Walsh … then players from both teams continue to scrap as the collective group of players walk to the benches ….
No-one really got hurt. There might have been a jumper punch or two.
Carlton 3.5 (23) lead Collingwood 3.2 (20)
Set shot. A beautiful kick by Charlie Curnow. He splits the sticks from about 40 metres out. Importantly, they regain the lead and repel Collingwood for the moment.
Carlton 3.4 (22) lead Collingwood 3.2 (20)
That’s three on the bounce. They’re finding their rhythm.
This one came from Jordan de Goey .…
Collingwood have clearly lifted their intensity.
Collingwood 3.2 (20) lead Carlton 2.4 (16)
11 – Blake Acres
9 – Scott Pendlebury, Dan Houston
7 – Adam Saad, Nick Daicos
We’ve played 25 minutes of the first quarter.
Old-fashioned slog has resulted in two goals to Collingwood from forward-half stoppages, whereas both of Carlton’s goals started when they took possession in their defensive 50. The Magpies have won the territory battle early. Lachlan Cowan is in the rooms for the Blues.
Harry Perryman somehow scores a goal. Collingwood have eked their way back after Carlton’s snappy start. I’m reliably informed that that was Perryman’s first goal for the Maggies.
Carlton 2.2 (14) level with Collingwood 2.2 (14). Q1, 21:50 minutes
