Cyclone Alfred LIVE updates: BoM warn storm could become category 3 as south-east Queensland, northern NSW residents continue to brace for direct hit

Brisbane residents in the high-risk flood zone are being urged to evacuate.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has just outlined the suburbs most at risk of flooding from Cyclone Alfred. They include Nudgee Beach, Brighton, Windsor, Ashgrove, Morningside, and Rocklea.
Residents in those suburbs have been urged to consider evacuating, with around 20,000 properties, if not more, expected to be inundated.
“We are advising people to make a plan in those areas,” Schrinner said.

Brisbane City Council is opening an evacuation centre at the RNA Showgrounds, although it will not have beds for long-term evacuees.
“This will be available for people who have no other options. It will be a very basic facility. This is not a facility with beds, it is not designed for the long-term, it is designed to protect people’s physical safety during the most intense part of this cyclone,” Schrinner said.
“We have modelled this on the cyclone shelters that are used up north, in northern Queensland, and also the Gold Coast is using a similar approach.”
