Kenny Wallace Claps Back At NASCAR Reporter After ‘Controversial’ Comments

Kenny Wallace has hit out at sports reporter Nick Bromberg for his “negative” comments about Wallace’s brother Mike’s plan to qualify for the 2025 Daytona 500 with MBM Motorsports.

Mike Wallace has had a long career in NASCAR, having participated in 197 Cup Series events and making 497 starts in the Xfinity Series. He has raced in the Truck Series too, even snagging a win at Daytona International Speedway in 2000 and another victory in the Xfinity Series in 2004.

The last time he raced in the Cup Series was almost ten years ago, but he kept active in the Xfinity Series up until 2020, though those races didn’t see him finishing at the top. Wallace’s return to racing is a personal mission, motivated by personal challenges and loneliness following the passing of his wife last year. He says this opportunity helps him regain the thrill and excitement he’s been missing.

Wallace’s announcement drew mixed reactions from the public and media, primarily due to his age and the years he spent away from competitive racing.

MBM Motorsports, the team behind Wallace’s attempt to qualify, is led by Carl Long, who stands firmly behind Wallace’s capabilities. The team hasn’t competed in the Daytona 500 since 2020, failing to qualify in both 2021 and 2022. Despite these setbacks, MBM Motorsports is confident, banking on Wallace’s past success at superspeedways to see them through.

Sports reporter Nick Bromberg didn’t hold back his skepticism, commenting:

“I’m sure this will be controversial, but a 65-year-old who hasn’t competed in a Cup Series race or a top-3 series NASCAR race on an oval since 2015 and last raced in a top-3 series NASCAR race overall in 2020 probably shouldn’t get automatic approval to attempt the Daytona 500.”

Kenny Wallace responded sharply to Bromberg’s remarks, accusing the reporter of spreading negativity. Kenny said:

“Would not expect anything less out of you, Nick. You’ve always been a negative reporter.”

Speaking about his upcoming attempt to qualify for the Daytona 500, Mike Wallace explained, as previously reported by Newsweek Sports:

“The big reason is in January 2024 I lost my wife Carla from being married 44 years. She had a bout with cancer, we thought she had beat it, unfortunately, she didn’t and life wasn’t all that great, wasn’t that fun in 2024…

“2025 brings fresh excitement, starting with this Daytona 500 announcement. They say you have to be in it to win it, and we are rolling into Daytona.

“Myself and my kids, we all needed a boost. We need something that would say, ‘Here’s a positive story for us, let’s go make it happen’ and this opportunity presented itself.”
