Two armed men have been arrested inside the MCG after bypassing security and carrying loaded firearms into Thursday night’s blockbuster between Collingwood and Carlton.

The loaded guns were found hidden down the men’s pants in a major breach of the stadium’s security as 82,000 fans watched Carlton’s round 4 loss.

Police were alerted to the men after one began causing issues in the crowd in the second half of the game.

During a search of the pair, both were found to be carrying concealed weapons.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed the arrests and said a 21-year-old Roxburgh Park man and a 37-year-old Broadmeadows man were taken into custody.

Police said they were initially called to the area by security staff to assist with two men who were refusing to leave the venue due to their behaviour.

“As a consequence, police have arrested two males and during a search it is alleged two firearms were located on each of these males,” they said.

The arrests were witnessed by dozens of onlookers with a significant police presence later seen outside the ground as footy fans left the match.
