Sydney Trains chief executive Matt Longland said maintenance at Bondi and Homebush had not been carried out overnight by members of the Combined Rail Unions, triggering today’s delays and cancellations.

Speaking on 2GB, Longland said the worst of the delays was on the T1, T4 and T8 lines.

He said the go-slow work ban, where train crews reduced their speed by 23km/h, was not to blame for the worst of the delays. Instead, he said blamed the delays on action from the Electrical Trades Union preventing them from completing maintenance works.

“We are concerned that these delays will cascade across other lines later in the morning,” he said.
