Woman bitten by shark at south Sydney beach

A woman has been bitten by a shark and pulled onto shore by onlookers at Gunya Beach in Sydney’s South.

Ambulances were called after 1pm on Friday afternoon to reports of a woman believed to be in her 30s who was attacked by a shark.

The woman survived the initial attack and was treated at the scene for serious leg injuries. She has been taken to hospital where her condition remains unknown.

Onlookers at Gunyah Beach said they heard screams, and quickly jumped into the water and applied pressure to her wounds.

Multiple helicopters have begun to circle the area searching for the shark.
